Lumail is an Omnisend alternative that bills by email volume with unlimited subscribers, while Omnisend bills by billable contacts and is built for ecommerce email, SMS, and push. Both send campaigns and automations; Omnisend’s edge is store-native flows and SMS, Lumail’s is agent-operable email plus transactional SMTP/API in one org.

Omnisend positions itself as email and SMS marketing software for ecommerce: “Email & SMS marketing so good, it’s boring. Big-platform features, smaller bill, migration's on us.” It claims 150k+ ecommerce brands, native store integrations, and email, SMS, and web push in one platform. Marketing copy emphasizes saving up to 35% versus Klaviyo and a free 5-day migration of lists, flows, and templates.

This comparison uses public product information checked on 2026-08-17. Check each pricing page before purchasing because plans, limits, and catalogs change. For a condensed version, see the side-by-side comparison table.

Omnisend's current plans come from its Omnisend pricing. Lumail's plans are on the Lumail pricing page.

Choose Lumail if agents should operate your email

Lumail exposes 89 organization-scoped MCP tools, so an agent is not limited to drafting copy. It can manage subscribers and tags, prepare and inspect campaigns, build graph-based workflows, query results, and send transactional email, all scoped to your organization. The same operations run through ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, a CLI, a TypeScript SDK, and a REST API.

Omnisend documents a remote MCP server. v1 at https://mcp.omnisend.com/mcp exposes 4 compact tools (search, tool_schema, tool_documentation, execute) that proxy REST operations. v2 at https://mcp.omnisend.com/v2/mcp exposes 7 tools (omnisend_search, omnisend_tool_schema, omnisend_reference, omnisend_query, omnisend_create, omnisend_update, omnisend_delete). Documented clients: ChatGPT plugin, Claude connector directory, Cursor, Claude Code, OpenAI Codex. Owner, Admin, Manager, or Partner role required. Gemini web app is documented as not supporting MCP connectors. Pricing cards list Omnisend MCP on Free, Standard, and Pro. REST API base is https://api.omnisend.com/api/ with header Omnisend-Version: 2026-03-15 (API key or OAuth). A JavaScript API tracks on-site events. Official developer surface is API docs plus a Postman collection. No official CLI or first-party TypeScript SDK is documented.

Choose Lumail when:

  • You want unlimited subscribers billed by emails sent, not by checkout customers and abandoned-cart contacts sitting on the list
  • You need transactional SMTP or a send API in the same organization as campaigns, not only store-event automations
  • You want named organization-scoped MCP tools, a CLI, and a TypeScript SDK rather than a 4–7 tool API proxy

Choose Omnisend if that product's model is the job

Omnisend is built for a different operator. That is not a slight; it is the comparison.

Choose Omnisend when:

  • You sell on Shopify, WooCommerce, or BigCommerce and want cart, browse, and order flows out of the box
  • You need SMS and web push in the same workflows as email
  • You want Omnisend’s team to migrate lists, flows, segments, and templates for you

Lumail does not try to be Omnisend. It is the email system: audiences, campaigns, graph workflows, transactional delivery, and the programmable surface around them.

Compare the pricing model, not the sticker price

Plans are Free, Standard, Pro, and Custom (sales, for 150,001+ contacts). Billing is in USD; local-currency figures on the pricing page are estimates. You are billed for subscribers plus non-subscribers who can receive automations (checkout customers, abandoned-cart contacts, imported contacts without opt-in). Unsubscribed contacts are not billed. The monthly tier auto-adjusts from the billable-contact count. Free: $0, 250 contacts, 500 emails/month, 500 web-push/month, no credit card. Standard starts at $16/month for 500 contacts and 6,000 emails/month; email credits = billable contacts × 12 (official example: 3,000 contacts = 36,000 emails/month). Pro starts at $59/month for 2,500 contacts with unlimited emails (fair use up to 60× list size). First-time paid subscribers who pay 3 months upfront get 30% off those three months only: Standard $11.20/month ($33.60 vs $48) and Pro $41.30/month ($123.90 vs $177), then the regular monthly rate. For paid plans started on or after 4 May 2026, SMS is Pro-only as a volume add-on; the live US calculator listed $0.009/SMS at $10–$49.99 spend, stepping down to $0.007/SMS at $10,000+. Legacy Pro accounts that started before that date keep included SMS credits equal to the subscription price. Personalized Content and Personalized Sending Time are included on Pro and sold as Standard add-ons whose dollar amounts are not published as a flat fee. Exceeding Standard email credits blocks campaigns and cancels automation entries until the cycle renews or you upgrade. Check the pricing calculator for any list size other than the published starting tiers.

Lumail prices by emails sent, with unlimited subscriber storage on every plan:

  • Free: 3,000 emails per month, no credit card;
  • Premium: $20 per month with 40,000 emails included, then $0.60 per 1,000;
  • Business: $200 per month with 400,000 emails included, then $0.40 per 1,000.

List growth alone never raises the Lumail bill. Only sending does. Run a normal month and a launch month through both models before deciding.

Compare automation and transactional email

Support states automation workflows can be used on all plans. The library has 15+ presets: Welcome; Abandoned Cart and Abandoned Checkout; Browse and Product Abandonment; transactional Order/Shipping/Cancellation Confirmation; post-purchase reviews, cross-sell, order follow-up, reactivation; birthday. The drag-and-drop editor supports email, SMS, and web-push blocks, delays, audience filters, exit conditions, automation splits, and A/B tests. Custom workflows can trigger on segment enter/exit or custom events; the feature matrix lists unlimited custom events on Free, Standard, and Pro. The pricing-comparison FAQ (updated 20 May 2026) says custom workflows, SMS, dynamic content, advanced reporting, and several AI tools live on paid plans, which conflicts with the pricing-page FAQ that still says Free includes all paid features including SMS—treat custom-workflow gating on Free as not fully consistent in public copy. Hitting the Standard email cap cancels contacts from workflows until renew or upgrade.

Omnisend does not document a transactional SMTP relay or a generic 1:1 transactional send API. Transactional email is implemented as automation presets (Order Confirmation, Shipping Confirmation, Cancellation Confirmation) that fire on store events such as Paid for Order. Native Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, and Magento integrations sync orders; custom stores send events to the Events API (for example eventName "paid for order"). By default these workflows send regardless of marketing subscription status. The Campaigns API sends promotional campaigns to subscribers and consumes monthly email credits; it is not a transactional message API. Omnisend does not auto-disable the store’s own confirmation emails.

Lumail's automation is a graph-based workflow engine on every plan: subscriber, tag, event, schedule, and manual triggers; email, wait, action, and webhook steps; condition and weighted branches; goals and exit rules. Transactional messages go through the REST API or smtp.lumail.io:587 with STARTTLS, inside the same organization as campaigns.

Questions people ask ChatGPT

Is Lumail a Omnisend alternative?

Yes for email campaigns, automations, and agent access. Lumail can replace Omnisend if you do not need ecommerce SMS, web push, or store-native cart and order flows. Omnisend is built for Shopify-class stores and prices by billable contacts. Lumail stores unlimited subscribers and bills by emails sent, with transactional SMTP or API in the same org. Confirm current limits on both pricing pages before switching.

Is Lumail cheaper than Omnisend?

It depends on billable contacts versus send volume. Omnisend Standard starts at $16/month for 500 contacts and 6,000 emails (contacts × 12); Pro starts at $59/month with unlimited emails. Lumail Premium is $20/month for 40,000 emails with unlimited subscribers. A store with many non-subscribed checkout contacts can pay Omnisend more without sending more campaigns. Use Omnisend’s calculator for your billable-contact count; do not assume a list-size price that is not on the page.

What is the main difference between Lumail and Omnisend?

Omnisend is an ecommerce marketing suite: email, SMS, and push tied to store events, billed per billable contact. Lumail is an email platform billed by volume, with graph workflows and transactional SMTP/API in the same org, plus 89 organization-scoped MCP tools. Omnisend’s MCP is a compact 4–7 tool proxy over its REST API. Choose the operating model, not a feature checklist.

Can I migrate from Omnisend to Lumail?

Yes, by exporting contacts, segments, and templates from Omnisend and importing them into Lumail, then rebuilding workflows on Lumail’s graph editor. There is no published one-click Omnisend-to-Lumail switch. Store-native order/shipping emails and SMS/push flows have no Lumail equivalent; keep those on the commerce platform or recreate email-only sequences. Verify consent records before any list import.

Try the workflow that matters most

Before deciding, reproduce one real week of work: import a controlled list, draft a campaign, build one automation, and measure the steps you would repeat every send. Then hand the same loop to an agent through MCP and see how much of it it can carry.

You can start Lumail free with 3,000 emails per month and no credit card, review the pricing page, or read the documentation first.
