Frequently asked questions
Are these email templates free to use?
Yes. Copy the subject lines, preview text and bodies into any email tool and edit them. They are written as plain text so they paste cleanly into a rich editor, a Markdown field or an API call.
What do the double curly braces mean?
They are Lumail variables, such as {{name | 'there'}}. Each one is replaced with the subscriber's value when the email is sent, and the text after the pipe is the fallback used when the field is empty. Other tools use a similar syntax with different names.
Which emails should be automated?
Anything triggered by what a person does: welcome, onboarding, trial ending, failed payment and win-back emails. Newsletters and launches are usually sent as one-off campaigns to a list or segment.
Which of these are transactional emails?
Failed payment notices and trial or billing reminders relate to an account the person has with you, so they are usually sent as transactional email. Welcome, onboarding, newsletter, launch and win-back emails are marketing and must respect unsubscribes.
